Most users are familiar with Adobe Reader, the free application that can be used to view, print, and annotate PDF documents. The simple truth of the matter is that most users don’t need more than that. They just need a simple means of viewing PDF documents and Adobe addresses this need with Reader.

Alongside Adobe Reader, there’s a paid application that has more to offer – I am of course talking about Adobe Acrobat. This application can view, print, and annotate PDFs just like Reader; it can also create, edit, convert, digitally sign, encrypt, and export PDF documents.

Adobe Acrobat used to be called Acrobat Exchange in the past. Speaking of which, I have to bring up the fact that this tool has been around for a long time - more than two decades. People who like to keep track of these things will remember that Acrobat 1.0 was rolled out to the public way back in June 1993.

Adobe Acrobat is available as a Standard and as a Pro version (follow this link to access a chart that details the differences between these editions). While the Standard version is available for Windows only, the Pro version is available for Windows and Mac OS X. The system requirements for running Adobe Acrobat Pro aren’t very high; a modern PC or Mac will easily meet them.

Getting Adobe Acrobat Pro up and running on a Windows PC that meets the system requirements is not a difficult task – it’s a bit lengthy, but it is not difficult. You’ll have to sign into a download manager to download Acrobat Pro onto your PC, you’ll have to repeatedly accept licenses and agreements, you’ll have to once again sign into your Adobe account, you’ll have to wait for the installation process to complete.

Once you do get Adobe Acrobat Pro up and running, it will be worth it. There is a lot that you can do with this application! But mind you, you can enjoy everything it can do for free, only for a trial period of 30 days.

Adobe Acrobat is a must have for anyone who works with PDF documents and needs a tool to view, create, and edit PDFs.

Pros

Adobe Acrobat is available as a Standard and as a Pro version; Adobe Acrobat Pro is available for Windows and Mac. Installing Adobe Acrobat Pro on a Windows PC is a fairly simple task. You will quickly get accustomed to the interface. You can use Adobe Acrobat Pro to view, create, and edit PDFs. Adobe Acrobat Pro integrates with Microsoft Word, with Mozilla Firefox, with Google Chrome, with Internet Explorer.

Cons

Installing Adobe Acrobat Pro on a Windows PC may not be difficult, but it is a bit lengthy. Trial limitations: 30-day trial; nag screen.
